Here at Briscoe French we regularly take on interns and work experience students to give them a taste of what it’s like to master the world of public relations. Quite often they teach us a thing or too as well. Our latest recruit is Ellie who is studying at Southampton Solent University. We’ve asked her to introduce herself:
Ellie Foxwell on work experience at Briscoe French Hey there!
My name is Ellie Foxwell, I’m 21-years-old and live in the centre of Southampton, so with rowdy students coming home late and harried workers leaving early I get little to no sleep! But it’s all fun and games.
I could probably talk about myself all day but, so as not to bore you to tears, here’s a brief introduction to me…
Before I came to Southampton for university I was a proper country girl (farmer twang in my voice and all!) in a little town in Wiltshire called Royal Wootton Bassett – honoured by the queen due to the military repatriations through our town.
I was heavily involved in the performing arts when I was growing up and still hold an interest in what’s going on in the industry – one of the perks of currently working part time at a restaurant that’s 50 feet from the Mayflower theatre. I’m still hoping for free tickets!
Aside from that, I also enjoy sports, reading, casual photography and travel. There are so many incredible places I want to visit but at the moment my bank account is firmly saying ‘no’.
I’m currently studying a masters degree in Public Relations and Multimedia Communications at Southampton Solent University after completing my undergraduate degree there in Multimedia Journalism, which I graduated from in July.
My undergraduate degree covered a wide range of media tools including video production and post-production, audio presentation and production, photography in studio and on location and of course the glue that holds all journalism together – the copy.
I decided to take a leap of faith and switch my specialty in my masters degree for many different reasons and while I do still have a love for journalism and learning about people’s individual stories I simply wanted to explore a different side to communications and add another notch to my belt.
While I’m still relatively new to the world of PR I’m really excited to learn more about developing and implementing campaigns for a particular clients’ needs and to also assist in creating engaging and exciting content across the media platforms.
I was introduced to Briscoe French through a mutual connection and decided I’d take a closer look at how things are done. The idea of creating online content, producing video, writing press releases and social media content sparked an interest in me. All of this and more could allow me to enhance my experience in working with professionals.
Also, a glowing reference from my connection about the great working environment and friendly team was a definite push in the right direction!
I’m really looking forward to what opportunities this placement at Briscoe French will hold for me over the next few months.
