World Book Day is fast approaching on Thursday 6th of March. Now is the ideal time to brainstorm ways in which your company can hop on the bandwagon and encourage your staff to become bookworms!

Taking part in World Book Day will help with your business’ PR, as it demonstrates your company’s commitment to literacy, education and personal growth. It also shows a care for your staff’s mental wellbeing, as reading books is an amazing way to relax and unwind, allowing you to escape into other worlds and forget your worries.

As well as this, partaking in World Book Day creates a great deal of content for social media posts, highlighting the efforts your company is making to raise money for charity which promotes a positive brand image and may even encourage other companies to also get involved!

Here are a few ways in which your company can get involved…

“Free Little Library” or Shared Bookshelves

A free little library is a great way to promote reading in the office. Sharing books spreads joy and allows people to pick up books that they may not have otherwise heard of. After World Book Day has passed, implement this as a permanent feature in the office if people enjoy it.

Book Club

An internal book club within your company is also great way to show the spirit of World Book Day. This club could read books from a variety of genres and allow staff to take turns choosing the book for the month. Share this on social media and ask others for book recommendations, encouraging a discussion and resulting in lots of interaction on your posts.

Charitable Donation

World Book Day is a charity event and it promotes a positive brand image to donate to the cause. This could be through hosting a sponsored reading event, a second-hand/used book sale or holding a fundraiser on social media so people can donate directly via a link.

Blind Date with a Book

This is now a popular trend to wrap up books and write brief descriptions on them so the person opening gets a surprise book! Experience the excitement of receiving a surprise, as well as discovering a book that you might not have otherwise chosen. Either give them out to employees or sell them, with all proceeds going towards the World Book Day charity.

Book Bingo

Why not extend World Book Day and create a Book Bingo activity to last throughout March? This would include creating a bingo card with different challenges for staff to complete. For example, ‘read a biography’ or ‘read a book set in a different country’. This would encourage your staff to not only read more, but to read more widely. A prize could also be awarded to the winner which would encourage participation.
